Lafayette Gateway

The gateway sculpture represents the growth and vitality of the Lafayette Community. The strokes breaking outside the lines also symbolize creativity and innovativeness, as well as a fearlessness
to be unique. The dominant red stroke continues across the street
and transitions into more of a flame-like shape paying tribute to
the city’s Bicentennial.

The heavy riveted I-beam outline or box supporting the colorful brushstrokes is reminiscent of Lafayette’s industrial heritage.
To more closely resemble the aged bridges and trestle nearby
the I-beams are painted flat black.

Positioned one block from the heart of the city and across the
street from the historic Train Station, the 30’ tall sculptures
signal a good starting point for the walk up Main Street. Dotted
with a number of sculptures and murals, Main Street is the pathway
to the City Market, restaurants, coffee houses, shops, and businesses.
